The best things about being a CPA is the positive impact you can make, the people you meet and the constant learning.
The best thing about being a CPA is being able to help people in unexpected ways.
I was swimming on vacation when I met a very uncomfortable looking woman. She was swimming and playing with her six year old and was having a hard time keeping up with her child. We struck up a conversation. It turns out that she was pregnant was trying to pick out a date for the baby to be induced. She was thinking about the beginning of January 2010. I asked her why that first week in January, was that a particular crucial date? She said no, but that she was an OB/GYN Nurse and was considering when she would be least busy with the holidays. In that case, I asked her if she could have the baby the last week in December. This way she could get the deduction for the entire year. She did not know this and asked me if I was sure about this. I told yes, I’m sure. I’m a CPA in Arizona. She was happy about that and decided to change the birth date of the baby. She felt much better also.

The best things about being a CPA is to be in a position with the education, experience, and credentials, that enable us to bring high level financial and income tax related advice, consulting, and planning to a diverse range of companies expecially in need during these tough economic times.
The best thing about being a CPA is the instant trust and credibility the designation instills in the public. It is a valuable credential when meeting prospective new clients for the first time, setting us “above the crowd” in our clients’ eyes. (Of course, there’s also the perk of office supplies. Who else gets to use such a vast array of colored flags, sticky notes, mechanical pencils, colored pencils, binder clips, highlighters, etc.?)
Congratulations to Jessica Moore who won the drawing. She posted her comment on LinkedIn. Thanks to all for participating and sharing your passion for being a CPA!
