Tap into the low hanging fruit first. Especially if you are recently laid off. What fruit am I referring to? Well, in your daily role didn’t you regularly speak with and do business with people outside the firm. Tap into those contacts, say good bye do not just disappear and ask for referrals. I’m talking about your prior employers vendors, customers, sub-contractors, banking associates, lawyers, auditors, insurance brokers, IT support firms (VAR’s) to name a few. Obviously, connect with local resources if relocation is not an option. The mutual respect you built with them over the years is of great value. Use it and regardless of where the referral takes you, remember to send them a thank you for their support.
